Aloha Hawaii County Council,
I'm a resident of Hawaii County, Pahoa to be exact.
Please vote YES on bill 192 and Res 727-18 to help improve animal welfare here
on our island. I volunteer at our local Kea'au shelter and see how overcrowded the shelter is
and see all the roaming dogs and cats all over our island and its such an easy problem to fix.
More people need to get their pets fixed and we need actual penalties and leadership to enforce
penalties for animal abuse and neglect.
Our 3 island shelters kill over 10,000 dogs on average per year simply because they don't have
space or better leadership to correct the problems. By voting yes on this bill and resolution,
you would be voting to help improve the leadership of our local animal welfare problems to an
agency that is better equipped to handle the load and also making it harder for people here to
abuse animals and get more of them spayed and neutered.
There are thousands of dogs and cats roaming our island,posing health and safety risks to
humans, native animals and suffering often in pain, or from starvation, lack of attention, etc.
Too many people here let their dogs and cats breed without a care. We must do more to help
fix this problem plaguing our island and do so in a humane way.
Please vote yes on these measures and any others to improve conditions for our animal friends
here on the Big Island,
