Subject: No on Bill 108!

Aloha,
I am writing to strongly oppose Bill 108 regarding banning vacation rentals in Ag and RS zoned areas. While I
understand the concerns that led to its inception I have serious concerns about its overall financial impact on Hawaii
County residents and on the real estate market. One needs only to look at the huge popularity of vacation rentals
here to see that tourists coming to our island need and prefer places to stay other than expensive hotels. If we had
enough hotels and resort zoned areas to accommodate the demand that would be one thing. But we do not.By a long
shot.Passing 108 will cause irreparable economic harm to our communities and our people.
Further I do not believe that the current grandfathering provisions are adequate.
I speak from experience.I have lived in a small community(adjacent to Yosemite National Park)that faced this
same issue and I know firsthand there is a workable solution to address concerns of zoning and noise complaints
without doing grave economic harm. That community successfully addressed the issues and found a way to continue
with vacation rentals, generating significant income for the county and for residents, while mitigating the negatives.
We can do the same here.I implore you to rethink Bill 108.We are already in an economic crisis. Please don't make
matters worse.Stop Bill 108 now.
