I purchased my home in Napoopoo in 1981 and my GET/TAT license was issued 3/1/81. I have diligently paid
those taxes. My family has been in the area for over 50 years.
This bill needs an Economic Impact Analysis before further consideration.
Not only has lower Puna been tragically affected by the recent eruption,but all STVR owners have suffered as well.
The excessive mainland press coverage has resulted in a 50%drop in my summer rentals and as yet I have only two
reservations for 2019... this is a significant decrease and all owners are likewise affected.
Additional fees and restrictions will force many owners to sell. The county will lose a significant revenue source
from lost GET/TAT income.
STVRs are an essential contributor to the local economy. We employ house cleaners,gardeners,handymen,pest
control companies and these locals rely on this income. If STVRs convert to personal residences most of these
needs would be met by the owner.
Many STVRs have ohanas which supply needed lower rent opportunities for locals. My tenant has occupied my
ohana for 14 years and is a valued member of the community.
Please table this bill for deeper consideration and better notice to property owners.
