To Whom It May Concern:
Please support Resolution 690-18. This requests the lowest possible commercial property tax
for relief due to the impact of the eruption on our Pahoa and Volcano businesses.
There is little that the Council can do to support businesses impacted by lava, but this is one
thing you can do. I hope you will show compassion and concern for the affected businesses. We
need our small businesses to survive in order to minimize the long term economic effects of the
lava.
I write not for my own business, but for the many small businesses who may not survive the
catastrophic loss of business due to the lava flow. Although I am writing to you today as a
Pahoa business owner, I am most aware of the need for relief due to my role as State Senator for
the district. I choose to avoid even the appearance of conflict of interest, so I address you as
business owner.
Those who say we ought not to do this because the whole island was affected must be simply
uninformed about the profound effects on Pahoa and Volcano businesses, which are far beyond
the island-wide effects. These impacts justify a humane, compassionate response from you as
councilmembers.
