The Hilo-Hamakua Community Development Corporation,HHCDC, came into
existence at the demise of the sugar industry on the Hamakua Coast. We truly understand o. CD-.`
the significant impact that the sugar industry had in developing the rich and uniquely
diverse social profile of our community where uniqueness is celebrated and melded into a . .r
collective conscientiousness of unprecedented tolerance.

Who we are today is intricately and undeniably woven from where and who we come
from and privileged by those whose backs we built our lives on; There are many lessons
to be learned from the past history of our island home; role models of untiring tenacity
and an unwavering belief in the benefit of the greater good,realizing that individual
actions have significant impact and influence on collective actions. A story that those of
us who reap its rewards,are obligated to continue to tell, elevate, and learn from. In
today's trying times,these moments are sorely needed and any opportunity to share it
should be encouraged.
HHCDC is proud to be able to support:the efforts of the Sakada Day Celebration 2018,
Perpetuating the Legacy by serving as its fiscal sponsor for what we believe to be
prudent and responsible use of County Council.Contingency Funds which will contribute
to an event which can only yield huge benefits to our entire island community.
We strongly support the passing of Resolutions 707-18, 708-18, 709-18,710-18, and
716-18 and sincerely thank Councilpersons David, Kanuha, Poindexter, O'Hara, and
Richards, respectively, for understanding and supporting an event that will be a lifegiving
pulse to our communities.
