HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 491 Draft 01 1969-1972County of Hawaii—State of Hawaii Resolution No. 491 WHEREAS, the County of Hawaii and the State of Hawaii are facing a severe unemployment problem that is higher than even the current national unemployment rate of 5.9 percent; and WHEREAS, the reason for the unemployment problem in the County is due primarily to a slowdown in new employment opportunities, specifically in the Hamakua District, where mechanization and consolidation of the sugar companies have and will continue to make decreasing demands on the labor market; and WHEREAS, the County General Plan and the Hamakua Community Development Plan identify the need for increased job opportunities in the Hamakua District; and WHEREAS, interests for industrial development in the Hamakua District indicate a need for statistical information on labor supply for potential developers; and WHEREAS, it is the function of the County of Hawaii Department of Research and Development to provide data necessary for managerial and legislative decision-making and provide staff leadership for public and private development programs; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII: (1) That the Department of Research and Development study the potential labor supply in the Hamakua District; and (2) Submit a report of the findings of this study at their earliest convenience.
