WHEREAS, the 24th Western Regional Travel Conference of
the American Society of Travel Agents, Inc., is scheduled to
meet at Kaanapali, iflaui., on April 12-14, 1972; and
itiHEREAS, distinguished delegates and quests from throughout
the Aainland will be in attendance; and
WHEREAS, the Islan3 of Hawaii offers the unique attraction
of snow-capped Mauna Kea while Madame Pele spews her fiery
fury of lava from the depths of the earth; and
WHEREAS, the Island cf Hawaii offers the unique opportunity
for the agents to observe, study and sample a vacation place
which offers acti•.,ities and enjoyment for all people of all
ages --from papayas at breakfast to macadamia nuts for snacks,
orchids to wear and anthuriums to enhance the beauty of homes
or offices, to big game fishing in our splendid waters and
wild boar and sheep hunting on our mountain slopes; and
WFPi REAS, their visit would present an opportunity to
tour the 4,03H square miles of the Island of Hawaii and experience
the scenic beauty blending new Hawaii with old Hawaii which
simultaneously calls to mind such designations as "Big Island,"
"7olcano Island," "Orchid Island" and "Islanl c` Contrasts;"

the Mainland will be in attendance; and
WHEREAS, the Island of Hawaii offers the unique attraction

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that the most cordial invitation and Aloha
of the people of the County of Hawaii be and are hereby
extended to the delegates, guests and friends of the American
Society of Travel Agents Conference to visit the Island and
County of Hawaii after adjournment; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Gene F. Wilhelm, Hawaii
Island Manager of the Hawaii Visitors Bureau, be and is hereby
designated as one of the official representatives of the
County Council to transmit this invitation of visit to the
delegates, guests and friends of the American Society of
Travel Agents and to extend from the County Council to the
Western Region of the American Society of Travel Agents an
invitation to have their next convention in Hawaii on the
Island of Hawaii.
