WHEREAS, CHARLES NATAYAMA has been selected by the
Kona Jaycees as its recipient of the Distinguished Service
Award for the year 1971; and
WHEREAS, the Distinguished Service Award is presented
annually to an outstanding young man between the ages of
21 and 36 for contributions to community welfare, leadership
ability, and personal and business progress; and
WHEREAS, CHARLES KATAYAMA has displayed outstanding
leadership and service to the community and has demonstrated
unselfish qualities by contributing endless hours of his
time for the benefit and welfare of his community; and
WHEREAS, among the numerous achievements and
contributions by CHARLES KATAYAMA are the following:
1. During the 1971-72 school year, he has been serving
as president of the Konawaena Elementary PTA,-
2.
TA;2. He is also president of the Hongwanji Cub Scout
Pack 12;
3. He has served as a secretary of the Kona Baseball
League;
4. He has also been a member of the board of directors
of the Kona Jaycees;
S. In 1970, he was awarded the Hawaii National Guard's
Commendation Medal for having the unit with the highest
total strength gained in the 29th Infantry Brigade;
6. He has demonstrated his patriotism and dedication
to the principles of our democratic way of life by serving
as an Army combat officer in Vietnam;
7. As a Captain in the Hawaii Army National Guard,
he is presently assigned as a company commander of
Company C in Honokaa and Kohala;
8. His business abilities are recognized by his
management of Union Oil products of Kona, and
WHEREAS, the County Council, County of Hawaii, wishes
to express its congratulations and gratitude for the
outstanding performances, services, and accomplishments of
CHARLES KATAYAMA,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that CHARLES KATAYAMA of Kona, County of
Hawaii, the 1971 recipient of the Distinguished Service
Award presented by the Kona Jaycees, be and is hereby
congratulated for his outstanding performance of leadership
and dedicated service to his community; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clerk be and is
hereby instructed to render a true copy of this resolution
to CHARLES KATAYAMA.
