WHEREAS, MRS. CLARA KAHUMOKU was the recipient of the
"Outstanding Hawaiian" award at the recent annual convention
of the State Association Of Hawaiian Civic Clubs in Honolulu;
and
WHEREAS, the much coveted "Outstanding Hawaiian" award is
the ultimate recognition presented annually by the State
Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs to a member who has diligently
and unselfishly given his utmost efforts towards the betterment of
the Hawaiian people and Hawaiian culture; and
WHEREAS, in selecting MRS. CLARA KAHUMOKU for this award,
judging was based rn her initiatives during the past two years
when, as President of the Hawaiian Civic Club of Kona, the club
undertook such far-reaching action projects as Legislating for
the Dreservation of 15,000 acres of State land at Honomalino,
Kona, as a natural wilderness park; participating in the
identification, preservation and restoration of historical sites
in Kona; and sponsoring an authentic canoe -making and Hawaiian
carving class at the City of Refuge National Park, Honaunau, Kona;
and
WHEREAS, the confidence and respect that Big Island Hawaiian
Civic Club members have for MRS. CLARA KAHUMOKU were attested to
recently with her election to a third consecutive term as
President of her Chapter and as the new Big Island District II
President; and
WHEREAS, her leadership ability and extraordinary talents
are further exemplified by her capacities as the manager of the
Kona Chamber of Commerce and her membership on the County Planning
Commission,
NOW, TH&RAFORS, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it takes this means to commend MRS. CLARA KAHUMOKU
as the recipient of the 'Outstanding Hawaiian" award; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council joins all Big Islanders
in wishing MRS. KAHUMOKU continued success in her efforts to
further the cause of our island heritage and its people; and
BE IT FURTHER RPSOLVED that this R: =solution be forwarded
to MRS. CLRRA KAHUMOKU and that copies of this Resolution be
sent to the Hawaiian Civic Club of Kona, the District II
Asscciation of Hawaiian Civic Clubs, the State Association of
Hawaiian Civic Clubs and the President of the Kona Chamber of
Commerce.
