WHEREAS, MITCHELL Y. EANEHAILUA has been selected by
the Hamakua Jaycees as its recipient of the Distinguished
Service Award for the year 1971; and
WHEREAS, the Distinguished Service Award is presented
annually to an outstanding young man between the ages of
21 and 35 for contributions to community welfare, leadership
ability, and personal and business proaress; and
WHEREAS, VITCHELL R. RANEHAILUA has displayed outstanding
leadership and service for the community and has demonstrated
unselfish qualities by contributing endless hours of his time
for the benefit and welfare of his community; and
WHEREAS, among the numerous achievements and contributions
by MITCHELL E. RANEHPILUA are the following:
1. For 1971, he was a candidate for County Employee of
the Year award in the non -supervisory class;
2. He established evidence of the presence of narcotic
traffic in the district of Hamakua;
3. He solved several criminal cases within the district
and suppressed cockfighting activities;
4. He serves as treasurer of the Board of Hawaii County
Economic Opportunity Council and is a member of the HCEOC
Finance, Program and Redevelopment committees;
4. Fie is a charter member and recreation committee
chairman of the North Hilo Community Council and recreation
chairman of the Laupahoehoe School's Parent -Teacher -Student
Association;
6. He is also a director and charter menber of the
Hawaiian Civic Club of North Hilo;
7. He has shown his leadership abilities as the
organizer and founder of the Laupahoehoe Athletic Club;
co -coach for the Laupahoehoe School Volleyball team and
F.iwanis Pasketball team: coach for the Laupahoehoe Laplanders
Basketball team of the Honokaa Senior League; advisor to the
North Hilo Traffic Safety Committee; and representative of
the low-income residents in Y,ohala, Hamakua and North Hilo to
the HCEOC; and
S. His individual capabilities for self-improvement
is evident in his continuing drive for education, graduating
from a special defensive driving course, and is a defensive
driving and remedial drivinq instructor for North Hilo area,
holds an associate degree in police science, a course offered
by the Hawaii Community College in cooperation with the County
Police Department.
WHEREAS, the County Council, County of Hawaii, wishes
to express its congratulations and gratitude for the out-
standing performance rendered by the sincere dedication to
service by MITCHELL K. KANEHAILUA,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that MITCHELL K. KANFHAILUA, the 1971
recipient of the Distinguished Service Award presented by
the Hamakua Jaycees,be and is hereby congratulated for his
outstanding performance of leadership and dedicated service
to his community; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clerk be and he
is hereby instructed to render a true copy of this resolution
to MITCHELL K. KANEHAILUA.
