WHEREAS, the people of the County of Hawaii have been
shocked and deeply saddened by the sudden death of HAROLD H.
(KUMA) HICASHIHARA, recreation instructor with the County
Department of Parks and Recreation and former supervisor
with the County Board of Supervisors; and
WHEREAS, this tragedy marked the passing of one of
Hawaii County's distinguished citizens who unselfishly gave
many years of devoted public service as a politician and
community leader of high integrity and ability; and
WHEREAS, the County of Hawaii desires to pay tribute
to this esteemed public figure who has untimely left behind
him a legacy rich and beneficial to all the people of this
County;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that it bidsformer supervisor HAROLD H.
(KUMA) HICASHIHARA a last "Mahalo" and "Aloha" imbued with
the everlasting gratitude and warmth felt by the people of
the County of Hawaii; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council extendsto KUMA
HIGASHIHARA's widow, Kiyomi and his children, Mrs. Vivian
Kaneko and Piss Faith Higashihara, its deepest sympathies for
their great and tragic loss, with the accompanying hope that
some comfort may be found. in the knowledge that their grief
is shared by the people of the Big Island; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clerk be and is
hereby directed to transmit a true copy of this resolution to
Mrs. Fiyomi Higashihara as evidence of Hawaii County's tribute
to, and great respect, gratitude and admiration for, her late
husband.
