WHEREAS, the LILIOUKALANI TRUST has greatly contributed towards
the betterment of life of the Hawaiian citizens of Puna; and
WHEREAS,, WILLIAM A. SUTKUS, a social worker employed with the
Trust, untiringly pursued the preservation of Hawaiian culture
through education of children of Hawaiian ancestry; and
WHEREAS, through his demonstrative conduct, WILLIAM A. SUTKUS
has instituted an education program for children and adults of the
Hawaiian language and arts; and
UTEREAS, WILLIAM A. SUTKUS will terminate his employment to
pursue a higher education in anthropology; and
WHEREAS, the Council of the County of Hawaii wholeheartedly
endorses House Resolution No. 403 and joins with the Members of the
House of Representatives, Sixth Legislature, Regular Session of 1972,
and the Hawaiian citizens of Puna in extending its commendation and
gratitude to the TRUST and WILLIAM A. SUTKUS for the valuable
services provided to our Hawaiian citizens of Puna,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it takes this means to commend the TRUST and WILLIAM A.
SUTKUS for a job well done and wish them continued success in their
efforts to further the cause of our island heritage and its people; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be forwarded to the
TRUST and WILLIAM A. SUTKUS and a copy of this Resolution be sent to
the Hawaiian Parents Society.
