Resolution No. -553 0
WHEREAS, the Council of the County of Hawaii is charged
with the duty to maintain the health, welfare and safety of
the people of the County; and
WHEREAS,, adequate educational programs are recognized
as being essential to the health, welfare and safety of the
people of the County of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, the people of Hawaii are widely known for their
musical and dancing talents; and
WHEREAS, the Council has been informed that music instruction
programs have been eliminated from the curriculum of the rural
schools in the County of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, there presently is a great need for a continuation
of the musical instruction programs in our rural schools which
serves as one of the means by which we instill within our
children the cultural heritage of the people of Hawaii,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that it does hereby respectfully request the
Department of Education of the State of Hawaii to initiate such
steps as may be necessary to reinstate in our rural school
curriculums the same musical instruction programs that are
enjoyed by our urban schools; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this
resolution be transmitted to Dr. Shiro Amioka, Superintendent,
Department of Education; Dr. Richard Ando, Chairman, Board
of Education; Mr. Harry Chuck, District Superintendent,
Hawaii District Schools; Mr. Barry Taniguchi, Chairman,
Hawaii Schools Advisory Council; and to each legislator from
the County of Hawaii serving in the legislature of the State
of Hawaii.
