Resolution No. 540
WHEREAS, the Tropical Agriculture Research and Training
Center is a federal program stemming from the Food for Peace
Act of 1966; and
WHEREAS, the Tropical Agriculture Research and Training
Center is requested to be located on the Island of Hawaii;
and
WHEREAS, the work done at the Center will have a world-
wide impact toward helping developing countries of the world;
and
WHEREAS, sufficient funds are necessary to build and
operate such a center; and
WHEREAS, sufficient funds are necessary to have a
successful program which will be able to effectively benefit other
countries throughout the tropical and sub -tropical world;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that the Congress of the United States be
requested to appropriate sufficient funds to build and operate
the Tropical Agriculture Research and Training Center on
the Island of Hawaii, State of Hawaii.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that duly certified copies of
this resolution be transmitted to the United States Department
of Agriculture, to the Honorable John A. Burns, to the
Honorable Hiram L. Fong, to the Honorable Daniel K. Inouye,
to the Honorable Spark M. Matsunaga and to the Honorable
Patsy T. Mink., to the President of the University of Hawaii,
and to its Board of Regents.
