WHEREAS, Mr. Shoshit.su Sen is the Grand Tea Master of
the Urasenke School of Tea Ceremony of Kyoto, Japan; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Sen generously donated the Tea -Ceremony
House to the people of the Sig Island; and
WHEREAS, the people of the County of Hawaii are honored
and pleased to have Mr. Sen present at the dedication ceremony
of the Japanese tea ceremony house at Liliuokalani park; and
WHEREAS, the Sig Island is extremely proud of the honor
bestowed upon the citizenry by the presence of the Tea --Ceremony
House; and
WHEREAS., it is important to preserve and perpetuate the ethnic
culture of the various people of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, the house is designed for the practice of the cultural
tea ceremony (cha-no-yu) which is an elaborate aesthetic pastime of
Japanese culture; and
WHEREAS, all the people of the Big Island may enjoy the cultural
and aesthetic pleasures which emanates from having the Tea --Ceremony
House; 0.
NOW* THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it extends its sincerest "Mahal.o" and fondest wishes
to Mr. Shoshitsu Sen in appreciation for his great kindness and
generosity to the people of the Big Island,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Island of Hawaii make known
its desires to maintain and foster its close relationship with
Mr, Sen and the Urasenke School of Tea Ceremony, and that such
relationship reflect the purpose of the Tea Ceremony in being
a relationship full of tranquility, respect, purity and harmony.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor be and is hereby
directed to present a true copy of this resolution to
14r, Shoshitsu Sen, at the Tea -Ceremony dedication at
Liliuokalani Park on August 3. 1972.
