Resolution No.
REQUESTING THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF LABOR AND INDUSTRIAL
RELATIONS TO MAINTAIN AN OPERATIONAL JOB CORPS CENTER ON
THE ISLAND OF HAWAII.
WHEREAS, the Job Corps on the Island of Hawaii has
become an important, educational and rehabilitation center
for youths who have violated the law and other youths who have
had problems in adjusting to the demands of society;
and
WHEREAS, the Hawaii Island Job Corps facility offers
educational and vocational training; and
WHEREAS, through the professional vocational guidance
offered by the Job Corps, young corpsmen are assisted in
becoming productive and well -adjusted citizens of our community;
and
WHEREAS, the people of Hawaii County need the Job Corps
as a means of putting our troubled youths back into the
mainstream of productive island living; and
WHEREAS, the community is impressed with the degree
of constructive rehabilitation the Job Corps has elicited
from our island youths,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF
THE COUNTY OF HAWAII, together with the Mayor of the
County of Hawaii, that the Job Corps Center be continued and
maintained on the Island of Hawaii; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the
County of Hawaii, together with the Mayor of the County
of Hawaii, fully cooperate with the Job Corps by integrating
the activities of the Job Corps with County programs;
and
BE IT ALSO FURTHER RESOLVED that duly certified copies
of this resolution be transmitted to the Honorable Shunichi
Kimura, Mayor of the County of Hawaii; the Honorable Wing Kong
Chong, the Honorable Joseph R. Garcia, Jr., the Honorable
Minoru Inaba, the Honorable Stanley H. Roehrig, the
Honorable Jack K. Suwa, and the Honorable Yoshito Takamine,
Members of the State House of Representatives; the Honorable
Stanley I. Hara, the Honorable Richard Henderson, and the
Honorable John T. Ushijima, Members of the State Senate;
and a true copy to Mr. Robert K. Hasegawa, Director,
Department of Labor and Industrial Relations, State of
Hawaii.
