HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 558 Draft 01 1969-1972RESOLUTION NO. 558 WHEREAS, United Air Lines has provided the State of Hawaii with quality air transportation service for twenty --five years; and T*1EREAS, United Air Lines has provided the County of Hawaii with direct service to and from the Mainland and has helped to establish Hilo as a Gateway to the State of Hawaii since October 1, 1967; and WHEREAS, United Air Lines has twenty-three flights per week to three important Mainland cities and connects Dila to the one hundred and sixteen cities that United Air Linea serves on the Mainland; and WHFF.EAS , United Air Lines plays an important role in the economy of the County of Hawaii by employing fifty employees at General Lyman Field, annually spending in excess of $1,500,000 locally for goods and services, and continuously promoting the Bice Island on the Mainland through advertising and promotions; and IEREAS, United Airlines was instrumental in promoting the Big Island and the Macadamia Nut Industry by introducing macadamia nut packets on its flights when the promotion of such agricultural product was sorely needed; and WHEREAS, United Air Lines is promoting the Big Island through a month --long promotion of "Hilo flaps" in connection with the celebration of its fifth anniversary of service to Milo, October 1, 1972; and '�J' WHEREAS, United Air Lines will dedicate an airplane for the month of October, 1972 to Hilo's farmed entertainer, "Hilo Hattie," NOW F THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COU11CIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWA.I I , on behalf of the people of the Bich Island, to extend to United Air Lines its warmest G'iRy1,ahalo 71 for the many worthwhile and enduring contributions it has wade to Hila, to the County of Hawaii, and to the State of Hawaii; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County of Hawaii extend its congratulations to united Air Lines on its fifth anniversary of service to the Big Island on October 1, 1972, and best wishes for continued success in providing quality air transporation to and from the Hilo Gateway and the County of Hawaii.- and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clerk be and is hereby directed to forward true copies of this resolution to Mr. Edward Carlson, President, United Air Lines, Chicago, Illinois, to Mr. Rill Syrith, Vice President of the Pacific Region, United Air Lines, Honolulu, Hawaii, and to Mr. Stanley f-111.
