Testimony in Support of Resolution 739-18—Additional Lifeguards for Hapuna State Park
Dear Chair David,Vice Chair Eoff and Members of the Finance Committee,
The Kohala Coast Resort Association(KCRA) is in full support of Resolution 739-18 providing for 3 additional
lifeguards at Hapuna State Park,with support from a state grant.
The safety of our residents and our visitors as they enjoy ocean recreation opportunities along the Kohala Coast is of
upmost importance to our community.We concur that there have been an increase in the number of visitors to Hapuna,
and believe it's important to increase the presence of Hawaii Fire Department's Water Safety Officers in the area.
The KCRA is a collection of master-planned resorts and hotels situated north of the Kona airport which represents
approximately 3,500 hotel accommodations and an equal number of resort residential units. KCRA member properties
employ more than 5,000 Hawaii Island residents.KCRA member properties annually pay more than$20 million in
TAT and$20 million in GET to the state, and$11 million in property taxes to the County of Hawaii.
