My name is Susan. Champeny, formerly of 4247D Kapoho Roach
which was an easement off of Noni Farm Road. In late 2017 our:9
easement was given a name by the County, and my location
became 14-3731 Holo Lio Road, Pahoa.
My land and home, along with 8 of l.0 Holo Lio Road resident's
properties, was buried under 60 feet of lava on May 31, 2018.
Most our road was buried, and our neighborhood is no more.
Sadly, if Rail. Road had. NOT been locked at Nanawale and made
clear enough for use, I might have been able to get more than 2
suitcases of clothes and my pickup truck from the house on May
30th. My neighbors might have been able to rescue more than
just their livestock. If it were not for the generosity of several
farms that opened their gates for us, none of us would have gotten
in from Papaya Farms Road that last day.
There needed to be better access then, and even more so now.
Highway 132 along,with 1 mile of Noni Farm Road are not
usable in any way.
I have not beenable to return to my property since then. Locked
gates, a 17 acre hike through un-marked jungle and a 60 foot
climb up and across 1/4 mile of jagged rock and crevasses is not
something I look forward to, especially If my truck "dissapears"
from the side of Noni Farm Road while I am gone. �j

Still, It is what I need to do.
Why?
First is closure. I need to touch and see and believe that my land
is gone. I need to plant ti, coconut and banana as I was taught to
do, to start the land again.
Second is liability. I have been told that I am legally liable for
what happens on my land. That if I do not post it as no
trespassing and mark it's bounds, I may be sued successfully for
any injury that happens there. There should be the most amazing
Rubber Tree mold, 60 feet deep, 120 across that I am now partial
owner of I can not imagine anyone NOT wanting to explore
something that wonderful if they found a way to it.
So... not all of us have "usable" land any more, but we still have a '
duty and a right to it. We need access too.
