Aloha Councilmembers,
I am writing in support of Resolution 732. Puna continues to recover from the recent
volcanic eruption and while some relief efforts are underway, a large area of land
containing farms and homes remains inaccessible. There seem to be no plans in
sight for those farmers, residents, and property owners to get back to their normal
roadand Kahakai
extra stress is put on the Government beach
lives. Furthermore,
boulevard, where additional traffic (including cinder trucks) is taking it's toll on
residents and substandard roadways.
Reopening Highway 132 or an alternative access road like Railroad would allow
farmers and cinder trucks to continue operation, boosting Puna's dismal economy.
Residents could return to their homes, alleviating some of the competitive housing
market and ending their prolonged suffering being away from home. Finally, residents
of Hawaiian Beaches/Shores and Wa'a Wa'a could resume normalcy by a reduction
' in unnecessary traffic through their neighborhoods.
