PAPIO PETITION
"Road Remediation Required"
The following Petitioners reside on Papio Street south of Kahakai Blvd. This road is presently being
utilized by Sanford Trucking (large trucks!) to pickup and transport cinders to its job sites, Up to two
hunched trucks per day (counting round trips) have been recorded by residents. This represents noise,
health and life&death hazards to residents and users of this road because of the following reasons.
1. Papio Street is too narrow 40 ft (24 feet road with.only 8' setbacks), too steep and has too many
trees, speed bumps, blind intersections, a park, and too many pedestrians to accommodate these wide
wheelbase and heavy trucks (which are always on or over the center line).
2. These trucks are incapable of stopping and avoiding a collision with any vehicle thatdoesn't see
the trucks coming over the blind lnll, or at the intersection, or if they happen to be stopped (as postman)
at one of the houses when the truck seeks to pass. This road is a"Accident Waiting to Happen!"
3. These trucks are spewing fumes into the houses upwind and causing health problems. Plus constant
noise problems due to stopping/starting at the speed bumps and"Jake-breaking"down the hill.
4.This industrialization of a private and narrow road is legally questionable and unnecessary since there
is an 80' wide road (with 15'wide setbacks) one block west: The Puna Putt-way, Puna Parkway is not
nearly as steep, without speed bumps, was made for this purpose and can easily be straightened at the
south end of the road. Or the Country can bulldoze the lava that cut off access at the cinder pit as they are
doing to open roads to our Park at Pohoiki! , _„-,
