Resolution No. 571
WHEREAS, the dynamism of American society demands
that America's educational institutions take leading roles
in meeting the challenges facing humanity; and
WHEREAS, there is a need for educational curriculums
to embody and reflect the multiplicity of subject matter of
which life consists; and
WHEREAS, the three-quarter system of the Kona schools
is a bold and courageous attempt to provide the students
of Kona with a broad and relevant curriculum; and
WHEREAS, since the inception of the Konawaena three-
quarter system, there has been an increased interest in
education among the students, a marked decrease in the number
of dropout students and an improvement in student -teacher
relations;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that it extends its support to the teachers,
parents and students of the Kona schools in their attempt
to retain the three-quarter system; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County
of Hawaii be and is hereby directed to forward a true copy
of this resolution to the Honorable John A. Burns, Governor
of the State of Hawaii, to Dr. Shiro Amioka, Superintendent
of the Department of Education, State of Hawaii, to
Mr. Harry Chuck, District Superintendent of Hawaii District
Schools, and to Miss Joyce Crisafi, Student Body President
of Konawaena High School.
