I'm still a believer the agricultural land was never meant to be developed into full blown
commercial activity at anyone's whim.
The problem here is Kapoho is now gone. They had there own strange thing going on down
there... At least down there it was concentrated. Could someone please explain to me why
the other neighborhoods should want to invite transients in? We can't even get rid of the damn
tourists that buzz our houses and harrass lower Puna by flying as low as 200 ft in helicopters
and now we are supposed to be excited about having potential more tourists right next door?
Seriously give me a break.
Can anyone that believes in allowing hundreds of more vacation rentals in Puna please explain
to me what mechanism they plan to use to compensate the neighbors for lowering their
property values while increasing their own property value due to increased cash flow. It
certainly isn't taxes paid. A week ago someone online told me its their vacation rental and all
'my money' so they shouldn't have to pay any taxes whatsoever. Well I've got the perfect
solution for that person they shouldn't be running a business and then they don't have to pay
any TAT. By the way to clarify this to people who don't comprehend it the original intent was
for transients to pay the TAT out of their own pocket.
Mahalo,
Chris Madsen
