AN ORDINANCE RE -NAMING THE COUNTY PARK KNOWN AS PU` ALA" A BEAC
•. TO AHALANUI •. AND NAMING THE POND WITHIN THAT PARK
MAUNAKEAPOND. I
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Purpose. The purpose of this ordinance is to re -name the park known as
Pu' ala' a Beach Park located at Laepao'o, Puna at TMK: 1-9-002-005 and TMK: 1-9-002-006,
to Ahalanui Park and to name the pond within that park Maunakea Pond, pursuant to Chapter 15,
Article 8 of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (1995 edition). Community members have pointed
out that the present name is inaccurate and have requested that the park and pond be given their
appropriate historical names.
SECTION 2. Ordinance No. 93-89, naming the park at Laepao N o, Puna Pu` ala` a Beach
Park is hereby repealed in its entirety.
SECTION 3. Notwithstanding any other law to the contrary, the park currently known as
Pu' ala' a Beach Park is hereby named Ahalanui Park.
SECTION 4. Notwithstanding any other law to the contrary, the pond within the park
currently known as Pu' ala' a Beach Park is hereby named Maunakea Pond.
SECTION S. In the event that any portion of this ordinance is declared invalid, such
invalidity shall not affect other parts of this ordinance.
SECTION 6. This ordinance shall take effect upon its approval.
