WHEREAS, the people of the County of Hawaii and the
State of Hawaii have suffered a tremendous loss by the
passing of former Representative AKONI PULE of Kohala; and
TAM-REASO AKONI PULE had served with great distinction
in the Territorial and State House of Representative for
more than 20 years, longer than any other. House member; and
WHEREAS, AKONI PULE has long been respected as one of
the most knowledgeable persons in Hawaiiana and as a dedicated
advocate for the preservation of Hawaiian culture; and
WHEREAS# AKONI PULE had made large and significant
contributions to the welfare of the people of Kohala as well
as all of the people of the State of Hawaii, and
WHEREAS, among his many contributions,, AKGNI PULE has
been considered in the forefront of the creation of the
Mahukona Highway between Kohala and Kawaihae, which gives
North Kohala ready access to the rest of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, AKGNI PULE has served with honor on various
community affairs, which are the Hawaiian Civic Club of Kohala,
the Kohala Community Association, the Parent-Teacher Associations
of Kohala High School and Halaula School, and the Boy Scouts
Committee of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter -Day Saints;
and
WHEREAS,, the County Council of the County of Hawaii, on
behalf of all of the people of Kohala, the Big Island and the
whole State of Hawaii, wishes to express its sincere sympathy
and condolences to Mrs. Sarah Pule and the family of the
late ATIKONI PULE,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNTY COUNCIL
OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it conveys its deepest sympathy
and condolences to Mrs. Sarah Pule and the family of the
late AKONI PULE,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clerk be and
is hereby instructed to transmit a true copy of this
Resolution to Mrs. Sarah Pule.
