RESOLUTION ATO.
WHEREAS, HENRY SHINIAKURA has been selected by the
Kona Junior Chamber of Commerce as its recipient of the
Distinguished Service Award for the year 1970; and
WHEREAS, the Distinguished Service Award is presented
annually to an outstanding young man between the ages of
21 and 36 for contributions to community welfare, leadership
ability and personal and business progress; and
WHEREAS, HENRY. S11111,AIAKURA, has displayed outstanding
leadership and service for the community and has demonstrated
unselfish dualities by contributing endless hours of his time
for the benefit and welfare of his community; and
WHEREAS, among the numerous achievements and contributions
by HENRY SHIMAKURA are the following. -

1. For 1970 he served as Chairman of one of the most
successful Capt. Cook Festivals ever held in the Kona District;
2. He is the current Executive vice President of the
Kona Jaycees and, in addition to his executive duties, he is
the Editor of the time-consuming newsletter for the Kona
Jaycees;
3. He served as the Chairman of the State Jaycees'
Committee on Drug Abuse;
4. He was principally instrumental in having the world
renown Up With People group brought to the District of Kona
for refreshing musical enjoyment for the community;
5. He has spent numerous hours contributing his talent
for the benefit of the Kona Association for Retarded Children-,
6. He has demonstrated his dedication and ability for
his major field of endeavor with the State Department of
Social Services by being assigned the Rehabilitation
Specialist for the Kona and Kau Districts;
7. His leadership ability has been recognized by his
serving as the past President of the Kona Civitan Club and
also the past Chairman for the Civitan' s major fund-raising
project --the sale of Christmas trees;
8. His individual capabilities for business is
evident by his management of his small farm in Cppt. Cook,
Kona, Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, the County Council, County of Hawaii, wishes
to express its congratulations and gratitude for the
outstanding performance rendered by the sincere dedication
to service by HENRY SHI1WKURA,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that HENRY SHIMAKURA of Kona-, County of
Hawaii, the 1970 recipient of the Distinguished Service
Award presented by the Kona Junior Chamber of Commerce be
and is hereby congratulated for his outstanding performance
of leadership and dedicated service to his community; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clerk be and
he is hereby instructed to render a true copy of this
resolution to HENRY SHIMAKURA.
