Resolution
WHEREAS, the County of Hawaii is charged with the duty to
maintain the health, welfare and safety of the people of the County;
and
WHEREAS, adequate recreational facilities are recognized
as being essential to the health, welfare and safety of the people
of the County of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, the people of the County of Hawaii have expressed
their interest in the recreational potential of the Kailua-Kona
Airport which has been abandoned as an airport facility; and
WHEREAS, the State of Hawaii, through its Department of
Land and Natural Resources, has control over Kailua-Kona Airport
and the surrounding property; and
WHEREAS, the Governor may, with the prior approval of
the Board of Land and Natural Resources, set aside public lands to
the County for a public use,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that the Governor and the Board of Land and Natural
Resources be requested to convey the abandoned Kailua-Kona Airport
and its surrounding property under State control to the County of
Hawaii for the purpose of the development of a recreational complex.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clerk forward copies
of this resolution to the Governor of the State of Hawaii and to the
Board of Land and Natural Resources.
