Resolution No. 337
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNTY COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII, STATE
OF HAWAII, APPROVING USE OF THE LESTER W. BRYAN ARMORY GYMNASIUM
BY THE COUNTY PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT AND PAYMENT OF THE
PRO -RATA SHARE OF COSTS FOR SAID USE.
WHEREAS, the County Parks and Recreation Department is in
dire need of recreational facilities to implement its programs
for the people of the Hamakua and the Waimea areas; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Defense, State of Hawaii, has
available such facilities in the Lester'W. Bryan Armory located
in Honokaa; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Defense, State of Hawaii, has
agreed to allow the Department of Education, State of Hawaii, and
the County of Hawaii to use designated Armory space and facilities
in accord with procedures established by the Department of Defense,
State of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, the County Parks and Recreation Department has
been using the Lester W. Bryan Armory gymnasium from November of
1970 on an informal basis; and
WHEREAS, the County Parks and Recreation Department desires
use of the facilities under a permanent and formal agreement to
stabilize a necessary program for recreation effective March 1,
19719
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII:
1. That the County Parks and Recreation Department is
hereby authorized to pay to the Department of Defense, State of
Hawaii, its pro -rata share of costs for the temporary use of
the Lester W. Bryan Armory from November 1970 through February
1971;

2. That the Council is cognizant of the lack of
recreational facilities in the Hamakua and Waimea areas and
hereby authorizes the County Parks and Recreation Department
to enter into a formal agreement, effective March 1, 1971, with
the Department of Defense, State of Hawaii, for use of the
Lester W. Bryan Armory, the County of Hawaii to bear its
pro -rata share of costs for said use.
