Resolution
WHEREAS, under present law the possession of marijuana is treated
as a crime punishable either as a felony or misdemeanor; and
WHEREAS, the County Council believes that firm and strong measures
should be imposed on possession of marijuana and other dangerous
narcotics; and
WHEREAS, it is the understanding of the County Council that the
proposed Uniform Dangerous Substances Act now pending before the
Legislature (S.B. 310, H.B. 290) imposes strong, clear, and reasonable
penalties for the crime of possession of marijuana and other dangerous
drugs; and
WHEREAS, the County Council desires to express its strong support
for the enactment of S.B. 310(H.B. 290) as the most effective means of
treating the crime of possession of marijuana and other dangerous
narcotics;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it go on record as supporting the enactment of S.B. 310
(H. B. 290) relating to Uniform Dangerous Substances Act.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be transmitted
to the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the Homme .
