Resolution No. 390
WHEREAS, historic Kailua Bay in Kona, Hawaii, is in
need of restoration of its sandy beach; and
WHEREAS, the Corps of Engineers, Department of the
Army, has the capability and is readily willing to initiate
immediately a reconnaissance study under the small project
program to determine the economic justification of such
a restoration project; and
WHEREAS, if such study is authorized, the time lapse
between initiation of the study and construction would be
considerably shortened; and
WHEREAS, among the many matters to be investigated
are use of offshore sand for beach restoration purposes,
study and review of quality, cost, and effects on the littoral
regime and ecological aspects;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that the Corps of Engineers, Department of
the Army, be hereby requested to initiate immediately a
reconnaissance study under the small project program for
the restoration of the sandy beach at Kailua Bay, Kona,
Hawaii.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clerk be, and
is hereby instructed to transmit a copy of this Resolution
to Col. Roy A. Sanders, District Engineer for the Army Corps
of Engineers.
