WHEREAS, JACK Y. OUYE has devoted his entire life
for the betterment of his fellow man and service to
his community; and
WHEREAS, among his many contributions and
achievements are:
Founder of the Hawaii Chapter of the National
Association of Postmasters
President of the Hawaii Chapter of the National
Association of Postmasters (1951-1953)
Hakalau Sportsman of the Year (1954)
Hawaii County Father of the Year (1958)
Federal Employee of the Year (1956)
Hawaii County Sportsman of the Year (1964)
Hawaii State Citizen of the Year (1965)
Honorary Life Member, Hakalau PTA
(former president for two terms)
Honorary Life Member, Hilo High School PTA
(former president for two terms)
Former member, Hawaii Congress of Parents P Teachers
Former Chairman, Rural South Hilo Warks and
Recreation Commission for 10 years
Former President, Hilo High School Alumni Association,
and member of Board of Directors for 15 years; and
WHEREAS, JACK Y. OUYE, in addition to the above, organized
the Hilo Coast Little League and served as its president for
14 years, serving in that capacity longer than any other league
president in the State; and
WHEREAS, through JACK Y. OUYE' s outstanding leadership,
more than one thousand little leaguers from Papaikou to
Laupahoehoe enjoyed the game of baseball at facilities
constructed under his direction at Hakalau; and
WHEREAS, JACK Y. OUYE has also served as President of
the National Foundation (,March of Dimes) , the Hilo Lions Club,
Hilo Coast United Church of Christ, Wailea Recreational Club,
Hakalau Young Farmers, and Hakalau Recreational Council; and
is Neighborhood Commissioner for Kilauea Council, .Soy Scouts
of America; and
WHEREAS, on October lb, 1971, at the Hakalau Plantation
gyri, seven organizations are holding a testimonial luau for
JACK Y. OUYE' s retirement as Postmaster of Hakalau for 35 years
(June 1, 1936 to May 31, 1971) and for his rife, Mrs. Mildred G.
Cuye' s retirement as Hakalau School teacher after 34 years of
teaching;

CCUNrl OF HA,IAII that sincere bQst wishes and heartfelt
congratulations be extended to 111R. AND MRS. JACK Y. CUYE
upon their retirement as postmaster and school teacher at
Hakalau.
BE- IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clerk be and is
hereby instructed to transmit a true copy of this Resolution
to Mr. and Mrs. Jack Y. Ouye .
