RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND
RECREATION TO AWARD FUNDS TO PEOPLES ADVOCACY FOR
TRAILS HAWAII
WHEREAS, Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-139(a)(3)(A) of the Hawaii County
Code (2005 Edition as amended) states that grant awards in excess of $25,000 to
nonprofit organizations shall specifically identify the organization receiving the grant
funds and the purpose for which the grant funds shall be used in an ordinance or
resolution.; and
WHEREAS, Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-136(5) of the Hawaii County Code
states, "nonprofit organization" means an organization organized for other than profit-
making purposes and which has a current 501(c)3 tax -exemption from the Internal
Revenue Code; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation wishes to provide $30,000
to Peoples Advocacy for Trails Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, Peoples Advocacy for Trails Hawaii qualifies as a nonprofit
organization as defined above and shall use grant funds to expand the bike -share
program in Kona from three (3) stations to six (6) stations; and
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII, in
accordance with Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-139(a)(3)(A) of the Hawaii County
Code, the Department of Parks and Recreation is authorized to provide a grant of
$30,000 to the Peoples Advocacy for Trails Hawai'i to expand the bike share program in
Kona as indicated above.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk of the County of Hawaii shall
transmit copies of this resolution to the Office of the Mayor, the Finance Department,
and the Department of Parks and Recreation.
