WHEREAS, the entertaining versatility of the choral
group known as Sing -Out -Hilo has since its inception in
March of 1967, provided this community, visitors to Hawaii,
and thousands of people on the mainland with a visual and
musical remembrance of Hawaii's aloha spirit; and
WHEREAS, its initial founders, namely, Messrs. Norman
Ing, Dietrich Smith, and Paul. Tallett, and its present
leaders have nurtured, groomed and blended this talented
group of youngsters from the County of Hawaii into a harmonious
musical unit which has gained renown for its beautiful musics and
WHEREAS, Sing -Out -Hilo, comprised of youngsters from
various racial background, exemplifies the beautiful results
that can be created: when racial harmony is diligently pursued; and.
WHEREAS, these youngsters ranging from 12 to 18 years
of age attend different schools such as Hilo College, Hawaii
Community College, Hilo High, St. Joseph's High and. Waiakea
Elementary schools; and
WHEREAS, their youthful efforts are deserving of
commendation, encouragement and public support to focus attention
to their community services, their priceless advertising of our
Hawaii nei, their immeasurable goodwill that has been
disseminated and., more importantly, their success in musically
explaining the aloha spirit; and
WHEREAS, their past and present adult leaders, their
parents and their past musical directors of Sing -Chit --Hilo,
especially Norman Ing, Hawea Waiau, and Clarence Waipa, are
also truly deserving of recognition,
NOW,r THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Hawaii County
Council does hereby express its appreciation for the many
beautiful hours of entertainment provided by Sing -Out -Hilo
over the last six years.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Hawaii County Council
takes pride in Sing--Out-Hilo's dedicated community service and
directs that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii send true copies
of this resolution to Norman Ing, Hawea Waiau and Clarence Waipa,
its past musical directors; to Craig Carvalho, its present musical
director; and to each member of Sing -Out --Hilo.
