Resolution No. 161
WHEREAS, in the interests of public health and safety
and general community needs, geographic identification is
essential to the functioning of the County of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, improved identification is essential to the
efficient performance of public services such as police,
health, and fire protection; and
WHEREAS, there is urgent need for improvements in the
identification of geographic localities, streets and highways,
major landmarks, public monuments, attractions, and places
of interest in the County of Hawaii, as well as directions
thereto; and
WHEREAS, there is a similar need for better identification
of residences in the County of Hawaii,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that Operation ID be instituted by:
(1) Asking that all departments and agencies of the
County cooperate in the upgrading of the identification
of our localities, streets and highways, landmarks, and
places of interest; and
(2) Urging the residents of the County to properly
identify their homes by displaying their house numbers and
street names, which information is available at the County
Department of Public Works.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution
be sent to all County departments and agencies and to the
various community councils of the Big Island requesting their
cooperation and assistance.
