WHERFAS , �MS. YASUKO A. MATSU AGA, who was born in a
plantation village in Kekaha , Kauai, and, was graduated from the
University of Hawaii, has made numerous significant contributions
to education; and
WHEREAS,, one of MRS. MATSLI14AGAIS outstanding educational
contributions is the initiating and operation of the silo Union
School's X-1 math laboratory, an innovative project that earned
her a Max Beberman .Memorial Fund grant from the Hawaii Council
of Teachers of Mathematics in 1971; and
WHEREAS, MR,S. MATSU AGA has graciously and imaginatively
discovered gays of making her teaching profession challenging
and interesting, both for herself and her students, one of whom,
it is said, remarked that She's the sweetest one ---stye even
scalds sweetly"; and
Wwrm SAS, MRS. MATSUNAGA,, kindergarten and first grade teacher
at Hilo Union School, was earlier named Hawaii District Teacher
of the Year; and
WHEREAS,, , MR.� . 11-1A►TSU A.GA has been deservingly selected
as Hawaii's 1973--1974 Teacher of the Year and has been nominated
as a candidate for National Teacher of the Year,
NOWt THEREF OM , BE IT RESOLVED BY THE, COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that deep appreciation, congratulations,
and best wishes be extended to ?MS, ..ATSU '.AGA.• and
RE IT FURTUER RESOLVED that a true copy of this resolution
be: sent to MRS. MATSUNAGA.
