WHEREAS,, MAILE NAKAYATMA,, Chief District Court Clerk, has
unselfishly and graciously given her time and energy to various
sporting activities and events.- and
WHERE -AS, MAILE NAKAYAMA has served as secretary of the
Hawaii Island Golf Association which covers and serves most
Big Island golf clubs; and
WHEREAS, MAILE NAKAYAMA has served for a number of years
as secretary of the University of Hawaii at Hilo Athletic
Booster Club; and
WHEREAS., MAILNAKAYAMA is president of the Bice Island
Woman's AJA Golf Club, the purposes of which include hosting,
on a rotating basis, the State ,AAA Women's Golf Championships and
increasing golfing opportunities for women; and
WHEREAS, 111AILE NAKAYAMA helped contribute to make 1973 a
successful year for the Lehua Golf Club, perhaps the largest
women's club on the Big Island; and
WHEREASO, M-AILE NAKAYAfM has served as secretary of the
Hilo High School Alumni Association and worked diligently in
its annual fund drives and programs.- and
WHEREASt -MAILE NAKAYAMA has irmensely contributed to the
success of the March of Dimes' hole -in -one contest; and
WHEREAS, MAILE NAKAYAMA has served as past president,
vice president, secretary and tournament committee chairman
for the Hawaii Government Employees' Association (HGEA) Golf
Club and is now serving as coordinator for all HGFA golf and
as liaison between the Lawaii Division BOLA and the HGEA Golf
Club; and
WHER-EASr MAILE NAKAYAMA, in her always -sr,.iiling manner,
has enthusiastically and with dedication served and promoted
sporting events for the betterment of the entire Big Island
sporting community; and
WHEREAS, MAILE NAKAYAMA, has been deservingly named as
the "Sportsman of the Year 1973" for being a "Sportsman" in the
truest sense of the word..

NOW r TFERFFORE , BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that it does hereby congratulate and commend
MAIL? NAKAYAMA for being selected by a distinguished panel of
judges as the "Sportsman of the Year for 1973.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clem be instructed
to forward a true copy of this resolution to 14AILE NAKAYA A .
