HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 194 Draft 01 1972-1976RESOLUTIO14 NO* WHEREAS, RODNEY PACHECO,. a student at Hilo High School, ran in 28 track meets in 1973, placing first. in 26 and second in two and tying the Big Island record in the 130 --yard dash with a 10 -second flat run, which record stood since 1929; and WHE E -AS , R MMY PACHECO, before he turned 16 on June 29, 1973, smashed the existing 440 -yard State record for 14 -15 -year olds of 53.6 seconds with a 52.7 -second roan; and WH REAS O RODNEY PACHECO twice duplicated his 10 -second 100 -yard dash winning the trials and finals of the Hawaii State :high School Track and Field Meet and placed second at said meet in the 220 -yard dash with a 22. "' --second. time, one-tenth of a. second off the 22.2 -second existing record; ,and WFEREAS, RODNEY PACHECO, at the Hawaii. Regional Junior Olympic Track and Field meets, posted the best time ever by a Big Island prepster in the 440 --yard run with a 51..1 second time, nearly a full second off the previous 51.9 nark; and MIEREAS, RODNEY PACHECO qualified to go to Ann Arbor, Michigan, and thus became the first Big Island prepater ever to compete in national track competition; and WHEREAS, RODNEY PACHECO started on the Hilo High School Basketball Team for the: last two years.- and W-IEREMS, RODNEY PAC11F'CQ played outstanding baseball as a centerfielder with the Bears in the Colt Baseball League and the Wanderers in the Hawaii. Baseball League; and W EBS , RODNEY PACKEECO has the distinction of being named by a distinguished panel of well-known Big Island sportsmen as "Athlete of the Year 1973" for his athletic prowess in track, basketball and baseball, NOW., THEREFORE, BE, IT RESOLVED nY THE, COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY of HAWAII that, it does hereby congratulate RODNEY 'PACHECO for being named "Athlete of the Year" for 1973 and wish: him greater success in the future I .. ------------------­------- BF IT FURTHER HFSOLVED that the County Clerk be instructed to forward a true copy of this resolution to HODNLY PACHECO, Dated at Milo, Hawaii, this 3rd day of April, 1974.
