Resolution No. �33
WHEREAS, the efficient management and use of all
property requires the careful study and planning of the
property, designed to maintain the environmental qualities
of the land; and
WHEREAS, deliberate planning of the environ which
promotes the symbiotic relationship of the flora and
fauna is required to maintain the natural beauty and
ecological balance of the open areas of the County of
Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, scientific groups are proposing the construction
of additional observatories atop Mauna Kea which may affect
the scenic beauty and interrupt the environmental qualities
of the area,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that it pledges its support in the
participation of the master planning and management of land
use on Mauna Kea to protect the natural, scientific, recreational
and archeological values of the mountain.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of
Hawaii be and is hereby directed to forward true copies of
this resolution to the Honorable George Ariyoshi, Acting
Governor of the State of Hawaii; Mr. Sunao Kido, Chairman
and Member of the Board of Land and Natural Resources,
State of Hawaii; Mr. Harlan Cleveland, President of the
University of Hawaii; Dr. Richard E. Marland, Interim Director
of the Office of Environmental Quality Control; and to the
Honorable Bruce McCall, Mayor of the County of Hawaii.
