WHEREAS, the export of tropical flowers is a prime
element of the Big Island economy; and
-WHEREAS, this vital industry was threatened by the
proposal of increased air freight rates by the various
air freight carriers, said increase having been allowed
by the Civil Aeronautics Board; and
WHEREAS, JUDGE SHUNICHI KIMURA, then Mayor of the County
of Hawaii, in his last few days of office as Mayor, used his
own funds to travel to Los Angeles, Chicago, Minneapolis and
Washington, D.C., on behalf of Big Island flower growers and
the Big Island community as a whole, to advocate restraint in
air freight increases; and
WHEREAS, this act of assuming the expenses of a trip
wholly in the interest of the Big Island was typical of the
utter selflessness, integrity, and devotion to duty that marked
all of Judge Kimura's years in public office,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the County
of Hawaii that JUDGE SHUNICHI KIMURA be and he is extended its
most heartfelt appreciation for this gesture of a true public
servant, both as an effective measure in itself and the
inspiration it served to each and every citizen of a grateful
community.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clerk be and he is
herebydirected to transmit a true copy of this resolution to
the HONORABLE SHUNICHI KIMURA, Judge, Third Circuit Court.
