HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 241 Draft 01 1972-1976County of Hawaii --State of Hawaii Resolution WHEREAS, the erosion leading to the loss of the world- renowned Kalapana Black Sands Beach, also known as Kaimu Beach, will be an immeasurable and irreparable loss to the County and the State of Hawaii; and WHEREAS, Congress has authorized the construction of the Kaimu Beach Shore Protection Project for the prevention of erosion and the restoration of Kaimu Beach to the beautiful and attractive place it had once been; and WHEREAS, the Council of the County of Hawaii had committed itself on April 24, 1974, to share in the cost of the $2.1 million project for the three-phase implementation plan prepared by the Army Corps of Engineers, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it authorizes Mayor Bruce McCall to commit the County of Hawaii in the expenditure of $1.1 million, which is the estimated County/State share of the cost of the project, and to enter into any agreement with the Army Corps of Engineers committing such funds. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii be and is hereby directed to forward copies of this resolution to Mayor Bruce McCall and Colonel Leonard Edelstein, District Engineer of the Corps of Engineers.
