Resolution No.
WHEREAS, the Hawaii State Legislature passed Act 119
in 1973, requiring counties to develop urban design plans;
and
WHEREAS, the County of Hawaii recognizes the need for
urban design plans, particularly for tourist destination
area(s); and
WHEREAS, the Kailua-Kona area is one of the fastest
growing tourist destination areas in the State; and
WHEREAS, the need to accommodate design considerations
in planning is important for resort areas; and
WHEREAS, the County is desirous of developing an
Urban Design Plan for Kailua-Kona as an adjunct to the on-
going Kona Community Development Plan; and
WHEREAS, the County agrees to contribute $10,000 in
cash and $4,740 in services -in-kind toward the project cost
of the Kailua-Kona Urban Design Study; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII
that it does hereby request of the State Department of Planning
and Economic Development and the United States Department of
Housing and Urban Development assistance in funding the Kailua-
Kona Urban Design Study under the auspices of "701" Planning
Grants; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution
be forwarded to appropriate State and Federal agencies in
compliance with their requests.
