Resolution No. 297
WHEREAS, a Canada-U.S.A. air route agreement signed on
May 8, 1974, provided for the certification of a U.S. carrier
on the Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada -Honolulu, Hawaii
route; and
WHEREAS, on September 19, 1974, Hawaiian Airlines, Inc.,
applied to the Civil Aeronautics Board for a certificate of
public convenience and necessity authorizing it to engage in
scheduled foreign air transportation of persons, property
and mail between the terminal point Honolulu, Hawaii, and
the terminal point Vancouver, British Columbia,,Canada; and
WHEREAS, it is recognizeably urged that a favorable
selection of Hawaiian Airlines, Inc., a Hawaii -based airline,
will, among other things: (1) provide easier connection
service for passengers and cargo to every island in Hawaii;
(2) increase employment and revenue in the State of Hawaii;
and (3) coupled with Hawaiian Airlines' fast, high -frequency
inter -island system, offer truly Hawaiian atmosphere and service
commencing from the journey's inception on the new route and
continuing throughout each passenger's inter -island travel;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that it goes on record as supporting Hawaiian
Airlines, Inc.'s application for the Vancouver -Honolulu route;
and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clerk be and is hereby
directed to transmit copies of this resolution to President
Gerald R. Ford, President of the United States; Honorable Robert D.
Timm, Chairman of the Civil Aeronautics Board; Mr. John H.
Magoon, Jr., President and Chairman of the Board, Hawaiian
Airlines, Inc.; Honorable Daniel K. Inouye, U. S. Senator;
Honorable Hiram L. Fong, U. S. Senator; Honorable Patsy T. Mink,
U. s. Representative; and to the Honorable Spark M. Matsunaga,
U. S. Representative.
