Resolution No. 301
WHEREAS, recreation plays an important function in the
happiness and welfare of people; and
WHEREAS, there is need for recreational areas in the
North Hilo district, Hawaii County; and
WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Council is interested in
developing the area known as "Laupahoehoe Point," Tax Map
Key 3-6-02, County and State of Hawaii, for recreational
purposes; and
WHEREAS, the United States Lighthouse Service of the
United States Government, under Pres. Ord. 1260, owns a
parcel of land located within the proposed recreational
site;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that it takes this means to notify the
appropriate federal agencies that the County of Hawaii is
interested in obtaining the above-mentioned property now
owned by the United States Government and that each of said
agencies notify the Hawaii County Council, 25 Aupuni Street,
Hilo, Hawaii 96720, of its action on Hawaii County's interest
to obtain.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of
Hawaii be and is hereby directed to transmit true copies of this
resolution to the Honorable Congresswoman Patsy T. Mink; the
Honorable Bruce McCall, Mayor of Hawaii County; Commander,
14th Coast Guard District; and Mr. William Bastian, Chairman
of the North Hilo Community Council.
