Resolution No. 319
WHEREAS, the earthquake of April 26, 1973, caused
widespread damages throughout the County of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, many structures and buildings, both residential
and commercial, and various public facilities and roadways
sustained damages in excess of $5 million; and
WHEREAS, a declaration of disaster has been proclaimed
by authorities of the County, State and Federal governments;
and
WHEREAS, the Federal Disaster Assistance Administration
requires that the County Council of the County of Hawaii
authorize the Mayor of the County of Hawaii to execute and
process requests for financial assistance under the Disaster
Relief Act in order for the County of Hawaii to submit the
final claim forms and receive the balance of funds approved by
the Federal Disaster Assistance Administration for the damage
to County property caused by the April 26, 1973 earthquake;
and
WHEREAS, Herbert T. Matayoshi was elected Mayor of the
County of Hawaii on November 5, 1974 in accordance with
Section 13-28, Special Election, Article XIII, of the County
Charter of the County of Hawaii,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that Herbert T. Matayoshi, Mayor of the County
of Hawaii, is hereby authorized to execute for and in behalf of
the County of Hawaii, a public entity established under the laws
of the State of Hawaii, an application and to file it in the
appropriate State office for the purpose of obtaining Federal
financial assistance under the Disaster Relief Act (Public
Law 606, 91st Congress).
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that true and correct copies of
this resolution be forwarded to the State Coordinating Officer
for the Federal Disaster Assistance Administration and to
Herbert T. Matayoshi, Mayor of the County of Hawaii.
