Resolution No. 323
WHEREAS, a special stand-by rate plan for senior citizens
was utilized by Hawaiian and Aloha airlines for the past three
years ending November 17, 1974; and
WHEREAS, as of November 17, 1974, Hawaiian and Aloha
airlines have discontinued their special stand-by rate plan
for our senior citizens; and
WHEREAS, the discontinuance of this necessary special
stand-by rate plan will be an extreme hardship on Hawaii's
senior citizens whose fixed incomes have been sharply
diminished by spiraling inflation; and
WHEREAS, our senior citizens will not be financially able
to visit children, grandchildren, and other loved ones on
neighboring islands; and
WHEREAS, our senior citizens will not be able to afford
necessary trips to clinics and hospitals in Honolulu for
special medical treatment; and
WHEREAS, the abrupt discontinuance of the special stand-by
rate plan for our senior citizens will have an adverse effect
upon Hawaiian and Aloha airlines' revenues because of the
inability of this segment of our community to travel at the
full -fare rate; and
WHEREAS, a special air fare plan for our senior citizens
is integrally important to Hawaii because we are geographically
dependent upon the service provided by the inter -island airlines.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that it takes this means to respectfully
request that Hawaiian and Aloha airlines petition the Civil
Aeronautics Board for permission to restore our senior
citizens' stand-by rate in the State of Hawaii.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of
Hawaii be and is hereby directed to transmit true copies of
this resolution to the following: Hawaiian Airlines; Aloha
Airlines; the Honorable Robert D. Timm, Chairman of the Civil
Aeronautics Board; the Honorable Hiram L. Fong, U.S. Senator;
the Honorable Daniel K. Inouye, U.S. Senator; the Honorable
Spark M. Matsunaga, U.S. Representative; the Honorable
Patsy T. Mink, U.S. Representative; the Honorable George R.
Ar'l*yoshi, Governor of the State of Hawaii; and the State
Senators and�Representatives from the Island of Hawaii.
