These funds will be used to reimburse overtime costs incurred by staff of the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney while they research charges identified by the HCJDC. Enclosed is a resolution to enter into an agreement with the HCJDC to accept these funds. Also enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by appropriating this $7,000 grant. • The Office of the Prosecuting Attorney requests that this resolution and bill be waived from the Finance Committee and be placed on the January 23, 2019 Council agenda. REQUEST: We are requesting that the county accept an additional $7,000 for the Prosecutor's office to utilize for the disposition research and documentation project. We request the Council's permission to accept the $7,000 Federal funds passed through the Hawaii Criminal Justice Data Center, at the State of Hawaii, Deprtment of the Attorney General. B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): Currently there remains cases in the State data bank that have no disposition. There are many reasons that the cases were not finalized. The Hawaii Criminal Data Justice Center is requesting our continued additional assistance in researching the cases that have no disposition and report to them what the findings are. We have estimated the amount of time it would take to research and document the findings. The Hawaii Criminal Data Justice Center, which is part of the Attorney General's office, which is part of the State, is now willing to pay the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney, towards the overtime costs, up to $7,000 to work on this project. Staff research the dispositons and then assign disposition codes in the state electronic system to finalize the close out.
