REPORT OF THE <br />COMMITTEE ON AGRICULTURE, WATER, <br />ENERGY, AND ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT <br />DATE: January 8, 2019 Re: Communication No. 3 8 <br />PLACE: Council Chambers <br />Hilo, Hawaii <br />TIME: 9:52 a.m. <br />Council Chair and Members <br />Hawaii County Council <br />Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br />Your Committee on Agriculture, Water, Energy, and Environmental Management, to which was <br />referred Communication 38, reports as follows: <br />Communication No. 38, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated December 19, 2018, nominates <br />Jon Olson of Council District 4 for a reappointment to the County of Hawaii Environmental <br />Management Commission. Motion to approve nomination of Jon Olson was made by Council <br />Member Kierkiewicz; 2nd by Council Member Eoff. <br />As introduced by Ms. Rose Bautista, Executive Assistant for the County of Hawaii, nominee <br />Olson is retired from business in the building, repair and sales of small boats and recreational <br />vessels, and -remains active in his community with numerous organizations such as the Sierra <br />Club. Nominee Olson was confirmed to the Environmental Management Commission on May 3, <br />2017 with overwhelming support and is now eligible to serve a full term. Nominee Olson is <br />affiliated with a political party, and if confirmed his term would expire on December 31, 2023. <br />Nominee Olson was present and thanked the Committee for the opportunity, noting that this <br />commission is near and dear to his heart as he was instrumental in getting this commission <br />started many years ago. <br />Council Member Kierkiewicz noted the vast knowledge of nominee Olson, and how proud she is <br />to know him and have him as a resident of Council District 4. Committee Vice Chair Kaneali`i- <br />Kleinfelder pointed out that nominee Olson was one of the founding members of the Puna <br />Community Development Plan (CDP) and thanked him for his continued guidance going <br />forward. <br />Committee Chair Richards thanked the nominee for his ability to continue his service on this <br />important commission.
