Dear Chair Chung and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to nominate Riley Smith to the Kailua Village Design Commission. A
business owner in Kailua Village for 10 years, Mr. Smith is eligible to fill one of two
. seats on the Commission requiring backgrounds in building construction or engineering.
Mr. Smith is President of Lanihau Properties and is a licensed civil engineer. He holds a
Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa and a
Bachelor of Science;Civil Engineering undergraduate at University of Southern
California.
Active in the business community, Mr. Smith served on the Kona-Kohala Chamber of
Commerce Board and was chairperson of the Kailua Village Business Improvement •
District Board.

Mr. Smith..indicates that he is a member of the Democratic Party. If confirmed, he may
serve a full term of 3 years.
