Re: Appointment of Robert Yanabu, Chief Engineer
Dear Councilman Arakaki:
My name is Alden Chai, President of the Hawaii Island Contractors Association (RICA),
representing nearly 170 member companies and their employees on the Big Island. On
behalf of the Association and its Board of Directors, I am writing this letter endorsing
Mayor Stephen Yamashiro's nomination of Robert Y. Yanabu, as next Chief Engineer,
of the City and County of Hawaii's Department of Public Works.
The RICA board voted unanimously in favor of Mr. Yanabu's appointment based on his
engineering, educational and departmental experience that spans over thirty years,
twenty four of which have been with the County of Hawaii in varied public works
divisions, all of which has distinguished him as a prime candidate for this position.
We ask that members of the Hawaii County Council see to the confirmation and the final
selection of Mr. Yanabu as Chief Engineer to the Public Works Department. We thank
