Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 30-19, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 30-19, transmitted by Finance Director Deanna Sako, via Communication No. 52 dated
January 3, 2019, authorizes the acceptance of monetary donations totaling$170,355 for disaster relief
from the 2018 lava flow.
This resolution accepts the donations from various private sources, as follows: Puna Geothermal
Venture ($150,000), Tokyoto Oshimamachi ($18,274.22), Saishoin Temple ($2,000), and Sister City
Mayor Inoue ($80.44). Funds would be used to help offset costs incurred relating to the 2018 lava
disaster in the lower Puna region.
Council Member Ashley Kierkiewicz asked for clarification regarding the use of the$170,355 donation.
Kay Oshiro, Finance Controller, responded she was not aware whether the $170,355 has been earmarked
for anything in particular at this time.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 30-19, and
recommends its adoption.
